Orthotic Design: Beyond the Basics (Level 2)

This hands-on course builds upon foundational knowledge of orthotic therapy by focusing on advanced principles of design, fabrication, and adjustment for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Through guided exercises, live demonstrations, and practical application, participants will refine their clinical skills in assessing patient-specific needs and delivering highly customized intraoral orthotics.

Attendees will work through real-world scenarios to analyze occlusal forces, optimize orthotic design for function and comfort, and make targeted adjustments that improve patient outcomes.

This course is intended for dentists who have completed a foundational course in TMJ orthotic therapy and are seeking to advance their practical understanding and confidence in appliance-based treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Apply advanced design principles to fabricate customized orthotics based on individual patient anatomy and diagnostic findings.

2. Evaluate occlusal contacts and functional dynamics to identify areas requiring orthotic refinement.

3. Perform precise intraoral adjustments to improve orthotic fit, patient comfort, and therapeutic effectiveness.

4. Interpret clinical feedback and follow-up findings to guide iterative orthotic modifications.

5. Develop treatment protocols that integrate orthotic therapy into broader TMJ disorder management plans.
