TMJ Risks in
Cosmetic Dentistry
Free Webinar for Dentists
A cosmetic case can look beautiful and still fail functionally.
Before placing veneers, anterior restorations, or completing a smile makeover, dentists need to understand whether the joint, muscles, and occlusion are stable enough to support the proposed treatment.
In this webinar, Dr. Agatha Bis will show general dentists how to recognize hidden signs of TMJ instability, evaluate functional risk, and modify cosmetic treatment plans before complications appear.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
Identify clinical signs and symptoms of TMJ instability in cosmetic patients.
Perform a structured joint and muscle screening to assess functional risk before esthetic treatment.
Recognize how occlusal changes and anterior restorations can trigger or worsen joint dysfunction.
Modify cosmetic treatment plans to account for joint instability, including altering prep design, vertical dimension, or sequencing.
Apply functional testing protocols, such as deprogrammers, joint loading, and occlusal awareness exercises, to determine joint stability prior to restorative intervention.
Develop pre-treatment stabilization strategies, including orthotic therapy, in patients with TMJ-related symptoms or occlusal risk factors.
